Brett Goldsmith received a PhD in Physics from UCI in 2008 through the Chemical and Materials Physics program. During his training at UCI, he helped construct Professor Phil Collins’s lab and was a key contributor to the Collins group’s ongoing and groundbreaking nanotechnology research. Outside of research, Goldsmith is a former president of the UCI Associated Graduate Students, and helped to create the Physics Grad Caucus.
After UCI, Goldsmith took a fellowship position at University of Pennsylvania and then founded the Functional Nano Device group at the Navy’s SSC Pacific laboratory. He then transitioned to industry, and founded his own startup nanotechnology company. He maintains a close relationship with UCI, and still regularly talks and collaborates with UCI researchers, and even a few folks from committees he sat on during his time with the student government.
