The
plan is to build a two-acre exhibit to house
greater rheas – large flightless birds – and
guanaco – a wild relative of llamas – as
well as the giant anteater, which would be a
new addition to the 54-year-old zoo.
To
date, more than $900,000 has been raised to
build a grasslands exhibit that would bring
UCI’s beloved mascot to Orange County. UCI
alumni and students have contributed nearly
$15,000 to the project.
