Help give Peter a home at the Santa Ana Zoo

Tierra de las Pampas Project

Project needs  additional $235,000 to break ground

In December 2007, the Santa Ana Zoo in partnership with its Friends of the Zoo, UCI Alumni Association and UCI's senior class officially kicked off a $1.2 million fundraising initiative to build an exhibit for the county's first pair of giant anteaters.

The plan is to build a two-acre exhibit to house greater rheas – large flightless birds – and guanaco – a wild relative of llamas – as well as the giant anteater, which would be a new addition to the 54-year-old zoo.

To date, more than $900,000 has been raised to build a grasslands exhibit that would bring UCI’s beloved mascot to Orange County. UCI alumni and students have contributed nearly $15,000 to the project.
