Alumni interested in helping the UCI
Alumni Association fulfill its
mission
are invited to apply for positions
on the UCI Alumni Association Board
of Directors or one of the
association's volunteer committees.
Committee
positions are filled on an ongoing basis. Board
of Director's positions are filled annually in
June.

UCIAA Board of Directors
General Responsibilities:
Promote the vision,
mission, goals and objectives of the association
on and off campus in an effort to enrich the
lives of alumni and engage them in a lifelong
advancement of UC Irvine.
Qualifications:
1. Degreed
alumnus/a of UCI
2. Member
of UCIAA in good standing.
3. Be
able to serve a minimum of a two-year term
4. Willingness
to work with persons regardless of age, race,
gender, disability, religion, ethnicity, sexual
orientation or socio-economic background
Principal
Expectations:
1. Attend
quarterly meetings as a voting member, with all
rights and responsibilities pertaining thereto,
including planning and fiduciary duties.
2. Serve
as an active participant of at least one
association committee (Advocacy, Development,
Finance, Membership, Programs, Scholarship or
Volunteer Relations)
3. Support
the university through regular alumni giving,
including an annual gift to designated UCIAA
philanthropic programs. The board’s annual goal
is $10,000 collectively with a minimum of $400
individual support in new scholarship monies.
4. Promote
UCIAA membership to alumni who are not yet
association members, with the goal of helping to
secure 3-5 new memberships each year.
5. Support
association events and activities through time,
talent and/or financial commitments, either
personal or through affiliated companies and
organizations.
6. Represent
UCIAA in public and at special campus events.
7. Educate
yourself on pertinent UCIAA issues and
organizational goals.
8. Promote
participation in association events.
9.
Identify and cultivate
additional volunteer leaders.
Term of Office:
Elected
members serve a term of two years, starting July
1. Additional term limits as described in the
UCIAA bylaws may apply.
Accountability & Guidance:
Accountable
to the membership of the association through the
board of directors and president in accordance
with the UCIAA bylaws; to the state of
California and the federal government for
adherence to laws and regulations regarding
non-profit corporations. Guidance from the
president, officers, executive director,
committee liaisons and staff.

UCIAA
Committees
Membership in the UCI Alumni Association and
participation on one of its key committees
provides the perfect way to reconnect with UC
Irvine. UCIAA committees are run by UCIAA board
members and staff.

Advocacy
Committee
Assist with the
association’s legislative advocacy
program and be responsible for
maintaining the contact of the
Association with community programs
and organizations. Advocate on
matters affecting the University.
Attend the annual AAUC Legislative
Conference, UC Day in Sacramento.

Development
Committee
Advise the association on
fundraising practices, including but
not limited to: suggesting
alternative and additional means of
funding for the Phineas Banning
Alumni House, alumni programs,
scholarships, special events,
underwriting, community
philanthropic projects,
philanthropic projects involving
other student groups or alumni
associations, and any development
projects relating to UC Irvine that
may have an impact on the
association.

Finance
Committee
Assist in preparing UCIAA’s annual
budget and program-by-program
budgetary procedures. Monitor any
legal fees or requirements,
requesting assistance from legal
counsel whenever necessary with
board approval. Analyze any
projected investments of the
association’s financial reserves.
Determine the financial impact of
the association’s programs both
included and not included in the
annual planning.

Membership
Committee
Assist in the planning of membership
recruitment activities, including
but not limited to: student
recruitment, alumni recruitment,
regional recruitment, professional
recruitment and support group
recruitment. Determine benefits
offered to members such as insurance
programs, promotional items, social
or sports opportunities.

Programs Committee
Development and implementation of
association programs, including but
not limited to: public functions,
receptions, recognition ceremonies
and special events.

Scholarship
Selection Committee
Assist with formulating policies and
procedures for
scholarships/fellowships awarded by
UCIAA. Review applications and
select scholarship recipients. Plan
the annual scholarship recognition
program. Maintain contact with the
recipients to encourage a lasting
relationship with the association.
